Will Toffey: Continuing a tradition of Massachusetts excellence

A year ago, as he watched the College World series from his hotel room during summer ball, it seemed improbable that Will Toffey would become a key player for Vanderbilt’s National Champion baseball team.

Yes, he would end up being one of the top hitters in Futures Collegiate Summer League that summer for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, but Vanderbilt’s roster was loaded with talent, especially in the infield.

Starting third baseman Xavier Turner was a staple of the middle of the lineup, hitting .303 through his first two seasons, and Tyler Campbell hit .313 in his five starts at third in the College World Series, including the game-winning single that sent Vanderbilt to the Championship Series.
