Retrial date set in Vanderbilt rape case

Two former Vanderbilt football players, Brandon Vandenburg and Corey Batey, will be retried on charges they raped an unconscious 21-year-old student in a dorm room in June of 2013. A judge in Nashville has set the retrial date for November 30th. after a prosecutor asked that the two be retried as soon as possible.

The two former Commodores had already been convicted of multiple charges of rape and were in jail awaiting sentencing when a judge set aside the verdicts last month.

Defense attorneys for Vandenburg and Batey made the request to have the verdicts set aside after they learned that the jury foreman in the case had been a victim of statutory rape as a teenager, but failed to disclose that fact.
