It almost seems like an anomaly.
Over the past three seasons, Walker Buehler has won 19 games, one short of the team high among active players, yet for almost his entire career, he’s been a midweek and Sunday starter.
This dissonance becomes even more puzzling considering the right-hander out of Lexington, Ky. is one of the top prospects in June’s upcoming MLB Draft. MLB.com recently listed him as high as the second-best overall prospect.
But perhaps a role away from the Friday night limelight is the one that fits Buehler best.
“If you gave him the option, I think he would rather have chosen to be (the midweek and Sunday) guy,” said Jordan Tarrence, his high school coach.
